A Hub for Leadership, Management and Ministry

Leadership Committee

MODEM's day-to-day business is managed by a Leadership Committee, elected by members.

Elizabeth Welch, Chair*

Elizabeth Welch grew up in South Africa in the apartheid era: this gave her a lifelong passion for social justice. She trained at New College, London and Eden Seminary, St Louis, Missouri. Ordained into the United Reformed Church in 1976, Elizabeth’s ministry has been strongly ecumenical, first at Eastbourne then at the Church of Christ the Cornerstone, Milton Keynes. She served as Moderator for the URC West Midlands Synod, and was Moderator of the URC’s General Assembly in 2001–02. Such leadership roles gave her insight into the need for leadership and management if the church is to offer effective witness and mission in the 21st century. Her ecumenical commitment was broadened by serving on the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches. In 2008, Elizabeth was inducted to a half time pastorate in Hackney. With the other half time she continues to further her research and writing interests in worship and ecclesiology, management and leadership, ecumenism and spirituality. She took up her role as Chair of MODEM in November 2008.
