Patrons
We learned with sadness of the passing of Sir John Harvey-Jones on 9 January. Sir John was a good friend of MODEM and provided the Foreword for MODEM’s first book, Management and Ministry. In it, he wrote that ‘Churches need to be well-managed, perhaps even more than private sector profit-seeking organisations do’. He observed that ‘Business leaders do not have a monopoly of experience, or of management skills’ and said that ‘MODEM is just the sort of organisation I would have dreamt of being set up.’ Among his many ‘retirement’ activities, he readily accepted an invitation to become one of MODEM’s Patrons. MODEM Chair Christopher Mayfield said, ‘Thank you, Sir John, for all that you gave us here on Earth - we look forward to meeting you again in due course.’ Sir John Harvey Jones 1924-2008
